HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — State Sen. Andrew Roraback, the Republican candidate for Connecticut's open congressional seat, is getting fundraising help from former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

The Hartford Courant reports that the one-time top U.S. diplomat under Republican Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford has scheduled a fundraiser in New York City on Wednesday. The 89-year-old Kissinger and his wife, Nancy, maintain a second home in Kent, in Roraback's state Senate district.

Kissinger's Connecticut home was the site of a fundraiser in April 2008 with then-President George W. Bush to help state Sen. David Cappiello, the Republican candidate for the same seat Roraback is seeking.

Cappiello lost to Rep. Chris Murphy, who is now the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate.

Roraback is battling Democratic nominee Elizabeth Esty.
