BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Bridgeport's mayor has joked about the city's reputation for slow vote-counting, but a top aide to Republican U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon wasn't laughing.
The Connecticut Post reports that Mayor Bill Finch, a Democrat, promised Rep. Chris Murphy, the Democratic candidate for Senate, that Bridgeport will deliver enough votes for Murphy to win on Election Day. "We may come in a couple days late," Finch added.
McMahon campaign manager Corry Bliss didn't see the humor. "Was this a joke?" he asked.
He said a shortage of Bridgeport ballots in the governor's race in 2010 was vote fraud, and that it was no laughing matter. It forced a recount.
Democrat Dannel P. Malloy edged out Republican Tom Foley in the closest governor's race in decades.
The McMahon campaign has hired an Election Day observer.
