NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — New Haven has reprinted absentee ballots after a ballot question demanded by peace activists was omitted.
City aldermen approved a referendum in June calling on Congress to reduce military spending and transfer money to civilian production such as rebuilding public works. Officials responded to lobbying by New Haven's Peace Commission.
The New Haven Register reports that the referendum was not included on absentee ballots, which were delayed as state Republicans successfully challenged the order of candidates on ballots in Connecticut.
Sally Brown, New Haven's assistant clerk says absentee ballots were reprinted and mailed at 1 p.m. Friday.
