HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy is touting his middle class roots in his latest Connecticut Senate TV ad, while accusing his Republican rival Linda McMahon of never fighting for the middle class.

The 30-second commercial, provided to The Associated Press, was scheduled to air on broadcast and cable stations beginning Thursday morning.

Murphy speaks about how his grandfather and great grandfather worked in Connecticut factories, and how his tax plan includes a reduction in middle class taxes. The 5th District congressman repeats an accusation that McMahon's tax plan cuts her own taxes by $7 million.

The former wrestling executive has said her tax plan would not affect her personally and that she's also proposing a middle class cut.

Recent polls have shown Murphy and McMahon are in a statistical dead heat.
