HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Some big developments in the U.S. Senate race; for the first time, a Senior Vice President of the bank that gave Democrat Chris Murphy a home equity loan has gone on camera to deny there was any 'sweetheart deal.'
And the WWE is moving to keep their videos off campaign ads.
It does not appear that the McMahon campaign is going to back off its claims that Chris Murphy got a sweetheart loan deal, even though there is mounting evidence that it's not true.
The Linda McMahon campaign is continuing to claim that Murphy got a sweetheart home equity loan from Webster Bank.
In addition, a bank advertisement at the time shows rates at 1.01 percent below prime. Prime at the time was 5 percent so the lowest rate available when Murphy got the loan was 3.99 percent.
"The congressman and his wife got a loan of 4.99 percent," said Guenther.
A full point higher," asked News 8's Mark Davis.
"A full point higher," said Guenther.
Also Friday, the WWE has moved to scrub the internet of some clips of past WWE performances that were used in Democrats campaign videos and TV ads in McMahon's race for the U.S. Senate two years ago. One video was produced by a Democratic group called 'Mothers opposing McMahon."
In a statement the Murphy campaign said, "this is what Linda McMahon doesn't want Connecticut voters to see: the sum total of her business experience comes from selling explicit sex and violence to children...is the WWE now coordinating with McMahon to cover up her embarrassing past?"
The McMahon campaign declined to comment, referring News 8 to the WWE. They said: "WWE is removing some dated and edgier footage from digital platforms. Some of this footage has been misused in political environments...This damages the corporate reputation of our company."
In another development, former U.S. Senator and Governor Lowell Weicker is endorsing Democrat Chris Murphy.
Weicker held the Senate seat for 18 years as a Republican. He told News 8 Friday that McMahon is not qualified for the Senate and that Murphy has a "very fine career ahead of him."
Weicker formerly served on the board of the WWE.
