HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has appointed a longtime activist on children's issues as Connecticut's new child advocate.
Malloy announced Tuesday that Jamey Bell of Bloomfield will succeed Jeanne Milstein, who retired in March after a dozen years on the job.
Bell is executive director of Connecticut Voices for Children, a nonprofit children's policy and advocacy group based in New Haven. She also represented children as a legal aid lawyer.
The child advocate's duties include reviewing how state services are provided to children. The advocate also heads a state panel that investigates the deaths of any children placed in foster care.
Bell's appointment must be confirmed by the legislature. She's expected to start around Nov. 1.
Her salary wasn't immediately available. Milstein made about $140,000 in her last year.
