New Haven, Conn. (WTNH) - A former president visited the Connecticut Sunday to attend a rally for Dick Blumenthal at New Haven's Wilbur Cross High School. Former President Bill Clinton was the rally's main event.
Clinton says Blumenthal, who's in a tight race for U.S. Senate against Linda McMahon, is a qualified senator "by light years. He also says Blumenthal has "made a real difference" for Connecticut.
"If you're willing to to stand up and fight for people , you can make a real difference. And he's made a real difference...," Clinton stated.
Jobs, healthcare, the housing crisis and the need for aid to job training were all on the table Sunday and the huge crowd ate it up.
Serious stuff, says Clinton asking folks to take that home rather than his jokes, although there were plenty of those as well.
“I am here in spite of the fact that I still resent him for looking 20 years younger than me,” Clinton joked.
He urged the hundreds who attended to talk to their neighbors and friends and urge them to support the attorney general.
“There is nothing wrong with this country we can't fix. But we have to think and act and choose and make the right choice. So that's what I have to say.
"I want you to promise yourselves that you’re going to tell people to vote. Tell them what's at stake and tell them it's a good choice.”
Blumenthal and Clinton were classmates at Yale Law School.
Clinton will also attend a fundraiser for Blumenthal Sunday evening.
President Barack Obama who headlined a fundraiser this month to help raise money for Blumenthal's campaign.
Republican opponent Linda McMahon has already raised $21 million for her campaign.
