HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has been named to head a National Governors Association committee working on education and jobs issues.
Others named Thursday to the 12-member Education and Workforce Committee include Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY'-fee) and Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin.
The governors work to make sure their views are considered in shaping federal policy.
Malloy says the governors "need to let Washington know loud and clear the policies that will help our children and our workforce compete with anyone in the world."
The New England states represented have a range of job concerns. Rhode Island has had the second highest unemployment in the country, 10.8 percent in July, and Vermont the lowest, at 5 percent for the same period.
