HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Republican candidate for an open seat in the U.S. House of Representatives has called Islam a cult and questioned if it is a religion of peace.
Mark Greenberg, one of four Republicans seeking nomination for the congressional seat being vacated by Rep. Chris Murphy, said in an interview Thursday on WNPR radio that Islam is a cult "in many respects."
He said he doesn't believe "in all manner" that Islam is a religion of peace. Greenberg says some Muslims seek to kill, but he didn't say who their intended victims are.
Greenberg, state Sen. Andrew Roraback, veteran Justin Bernier and business owner Lisa Wilson-Foley are vying to fill the seat vacated by Murphy, a Democrat who is running for the U.S. Senate.
