WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — U.S. Rep. John Larson is hosting a forum on preventing violence following the deadly mass shootings at a Newtown elementary school.

The event is planned for 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the St. John's Episcopal Church in West Hartford.

Larson said there's an immediate need to begin a comprehensive look at violence in the community. He plans to discuss the mental health system, gun regulations and national policy related to violence prevention.

On Dec. 14, a gunman opened fire inside the Sandy Hook Elementary School, killing 20 children and six staff members before committing suicide. He's also suspected of killing his mother inside their Newtown home.

The gunman has been described as having trouble relating to others.
