HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin are headlining a policy briefing in Washington, D.C. on ways to boost early literacy by paying closer attention to students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities.

Both governors are dyslexic. They are expected to discuss their personal experiences growing up with the condition, what can happen if dyslexia goes undiagnosed, and policies that can make a difference.

Malloy and Shumlin are scheduled to appear Monday at the National Press Club for the discussion. Experts in state and national literacy and learning disabilities are also expected to be on hand.

Dyslexia is a learning disability with neurological and genetic causes. People with dyslexia have difficulty decoding and recognizing words.
