HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — National Democrats are continuing to invest large sums of money to help Connecticut Democratic Senate candidate Chris Murphy defeat wealthy Republican candidate Linda McMahon.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee this week reported spending $292,584 on a new TV ad opposing McMahon.

Federal campaign finance records show the DSCC has spent nearly $1.2 million on such ads since early September.

The records show Murphy is also getting help from organized labor. The American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees last week spent nearly $259,000 on two mailers to voters.

McMahon so far has spent more than $16 million of her own money on this year's race. That figure is expected to climb when her latest campaign finance report is filed.

She spent $50 million on her unsuccessful 2010 campaign.
