HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Former Sen. Chris Dodd will join Connecticut's delegation at the Democratic convention this summer though he's been out of office for 17 months.

The Hearst Connecticut Media Group reports ( http://bit.ly/Lycoh8  ) that Dodd will be an unpledged super delegate at the convention in Charlotte, N.C. He heads the Motion Picture Association of America in Washington, D.C.

A spokesman for the former five-term senator confirmed that he plans to attend the convention, scheduled for Sept. 3-6.

Dodd qualifies as an unpledged delegate because he was chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1995 to 1997.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Sen. Richard Blumenthal also will be super delegates to the convention that's expected to nominate President Barack Obama for a second term.
