HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Governor Dannel Malloy partially activated the state's emergency operations center to monitor a potentially hazardous cloud of smoke.

The smoke is coming from an industrial fire in Ghent, New York.

"After assessing this potential threat with emergency management and public health officials, I have directed a partial activation of the EOC today," Malloy said. "This will allow us to monitor current conditions and advise the public quickly if protective actions are needed. We continue to coordinate with New York and Massachusetts and will keep the media updated on any developments."

The EOC is staffed by officials from the Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Division of the State Police, Department of Public Health, Department of Transportation, Military Department, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and State Fire Coordination.
