HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Leaders of the Working Families Party are meeting with former state Rep. Elizabeth Esty, the winner of Connecticut's 5th Congressional District Democratic primary, to discuss where she stands on issues.
The third party has already cross-endorsed Democratic House Speaker Chris Donovan.
Executive Director Lindsay Farrell said the party can't make a nomination until Donovan decides to drop his endorsement.
She said Donovan met with party leaders on Friday and told them he wants to make sure there's a candidate who supports the party's issues, such as fair wages and protecting Medicare, and has a good chance of winning the election.
Donovan called Esty and encouraged her to contact the party and address the members' concerns, such as her vote against paid sick days.
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday.
