NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — The former finance director of Connecticut House Speaker Chris Donovan's congressional campaign says he's unemployed and facing eviction after his arrest on charges of trying to hide the source of campaign contributions.

An attorney for Robert Braddock Jr. of Meriden filed court papers Tuesday asking that he be allowed to live out of state as he awaits trial. His attorney says Braddock has been unable to find work and cannot afford his housing.

Braddock has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The contributions allegedly were tied to an effort to defeat state legislation to raise taxes on "roll-your-own" smoke shop owners.

Donovan, who has denied any knowledge of the alleged scheme and has not been charged with any crimes, lost the Democratic primary and withdrew from the race.
