WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) — State lawmakers are participating in a discussion of the changes that the new education reform law will bring to Connecticut classrooms.

House Minority Leader Rep. Larry Cafero, a Norwalk Republican, and Sen. Bob Duff, a Norwalk Democrat, are appearing at a forum Wednesday at the University of Connecticut's Waterbury campus.

The event is hosted by the Neag School of Education 's Teacher Certification Program for College Graduates and will focus on what the new law means for public school teachers.

The legislation requires annual performance evaluations for teachers and administrators and links tenure to a teacher's effectiveness. There is also additional funding for agricultural science high schools, magnet, vocational-technical, and struggling schools; and two new charter schools focused on English language learners.
