HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- The Supreme Court has approved the health care overhaul, but what does that mean for small businesses?
As a small business owner, Kevin Galvin has been looking for a band-aid for some time when it comes to health care costs. He thinks he may have finally found it with the Affordable Care Act.
"I just would like to really think that the system is going to start doing something for small businesses rather than talking about it," said Galvin.
Galvin, of course, is not alone in his relief of last week's Supreme Court decision upholding the healthcare law.
"People across America need to know that affordable healthcare is on the way," said Chris Donovan, Speaker of the House.
Democratic lawmakers were praising the ruling, projecting Connecticut's uninsured population will drop by at least 170,000 people.
One hope is that relief may come to Connecticut's small business employees, about 40,000, which will allow them to participate in what is known as the "exchange," where one can shop for a provider at the lowest cost.
Galvin has lost valued employees to bigger companies who can provide healthcare, a seemingly continuous open wound that may finally begin to heal.
"When the rubber meets the road, people go to work to make money and to live," Galvin said. "And with healthcare coverage, with not being able to have healthcare coverage it puts me at a huge disadvantage."
The Democrats had their say and we wanted to get Republican input on the Supreme Court decision.
News 8 spoke with Senator Andrew Roraback, who says the Supreme Court decision is nothing to be celebrated. He says this will cost Connecticut jobs and slow economic recovery, specifically, because of a tax increase: 21 new taxes to cover the plan, raising taxes by 800 billion in the next 10 years.
