NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- The state's budget crisis is hitting the state's universities as well. Here at Southern, and at Eastern, Western and Central as well, they are now in a hiring freeze.
According to the Hartford Courant , this comes at a time when there are already not enough professors.
Governor Dannel Malloy's big plan for higher education reform brought down administrative costs by five and a half million dollars. They were going to use that money to hire new professors, but now Malloy's budget cuts take back seven million from the state universities. That's the reason for the hiring freeze.
Malloy is cutting UConn's budget by $10 million. The Courant says UConn's trustees have no plans to stop hiring.
