Is the recession really over?

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- On the Presidential campaign trial there seems to be some dispute about whether the recession is really over, but in Connecticut it appear your opinion depends on what kind of business you are in.

At the Connecticut Convention Center on Thursday it was all about thinking and acting like a business shark.

Daymond John, the clothing entrepreneur and star of ABC's Shark Tank was one of the big draws at the Connecticut Business Expo.
      
The show is put on by the Hartford Business Journal. It's a trade show for area businesses large and small that this year drew about 5,000 people and about 200 businesses.
      
Many of the business where involved in the internet and social media, and all them seem to believe the recession is over.

"I do think the recession is over," said Jeffrey Cohen, of ImageWorks. "I think it's a relatively slow climb out but I do think it is in an upward mobility."

"In the last, I would say, twelve months, we've noticed people are starting to do things that are not just essential services anymore, they're doing things that they have put off," said Michael Giuffrida, of Foresite.
      
One small marketing firm was offering professionally photographed head shots and the owner told News 8 things for them are looking up.

"Last year we had a 27 percent increase in business, so I'm thinking we're on the road to recovery," said Jody Ferrer, from The Perfect Promotion. "This year our numbers are even better than last year."
      
But the construction industry is still lagging. Jack Krudwig said there was still demand for his services but that the availability of loans is still a problem.

"I don't think it's over," he said. "I think we're holding our own. I don't think that we've gone backwards though. I don't think it's over though. I ses it as, we're kind of a... we're in a stable position."
