Layoffs, closings coming to DMV offices

Hartford, Conn. (WTNH) - If you think your wait at the Department of Motor Vehicles was long the last time you went wait 'til the next time. Several offices are closing.

News 8 has learned that DMV officials visited many offices Wednesday to tell the employees to expect layoff notices soon.

The DMV offices closing include;

  • Danbury
  • New Britain
  • Enfield
  • Old Saybrook
  • Putnam

Also closing are the photo license renewal centers in:

  • Middletown
  • Derby
  • Milford

The employee layoffs and satelite office closings will make this most freqently used state service a test of patience.

"There's no question the public's going to be affected but government will continue to operate, it will be smaller, it will be cheaper, but the level of services that people have become used to they simply won't be getting." Occhiogrosso said. He admits it's possible people will stand in line longer at the DMV.
