ROCKY HILL, Conn. (AP) — The president and CEO of Foodshare is being honored for her work providing food to people in need in Hartford and Tolland counties.

U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman is scheduled to honor Gloria McAdam as a "Joe's Hero" during a visit to Foodshare's mobile site in Rocky Hill on Friday afternoon.

Under McAdam's leadership, the organization has grown to serve more than 12 million pounds of food each year, Lieberman's office said.

Foodshare is a regional food bank. According to the organization's website, in 2010, it distributed 16 tons of food daily to 300 community kitchens, emergency shelters, food pantries, and other anti-hunger programs.

Lieberman, who is retiring at the end of the year, has honored outstanding Connecticut residents, schools and organizations throughout his tenure as a U.S. senator.
