HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has appointed Michael Caron, a former Republican state representative, as one of three directors of Connecticut's Public Utilities Regulatory Authority.

The Democratic governor announced the interim appointment Thursday. The nomination still needs legislative approval.

Caron, who lives in West Hartford, held the 44th Assembly District from 1991 to 2009. That district includes Killingly, Plainfield and Sterling. During that time, he served as an assistant minority leader and a member of the General Assembly's Energy and Technology Committee.

More recently, Caron has worked as a state capitol lobbyist and as Pfizer Inc.'s Director of Global Affairs-Global Sites.

The authority is the state entity charged with regulating rates and services of state electricity, natural gas, water and telecommunications providers.
