PRESTON, Conn. (AP) - Gov. Dannel P. Malloy plans to tour the abandoned Norwich Hospital campus in Preston and discuss proposals for a new use of the property.
The governor, state Rep. Tom Reynolds and Sen. Andrew Maynard, are scheduled Monday to visit the 390 acres the town of Preston accepted from the state, now called Preston Riverwalk. They're also planning to meet with the Preston Redevelopment Agency.
The town has hired a firm to secure the property and begin some cleanup work using federal funds. Those initial grants, however, are running out. It's expected to cost tens of millions of dollars to clean up the property.
Malloy has said it was wrong for the state to abandoned the property and insist the town clean it up if it wanted develop the site.
