Mayors fight against no vehicle tax

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- The Mayors of Connecticut's biggest cities got together on Tuesday to push back against governor Malloy's budget plan that would do away with the vehicle tax.

The Mayors from the Conference of Municipalities met today.

They say doing away with that tax that helps cities and towns pay their bills would cause property taxes to go up and hurt the state.

"In New Haven's Instance, the budget that was introduced increases the mil rate by four and a half mils on top of what ever else we do. That's not smart for anybody. I think that the speaker recognizes that and acknowledges that," said Mayor DeStefano.

The mayors say doing away with the car tax would cut income for cities in towns by more than 630 million dollars.
