NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- Linda McMahon is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, but folks say it took calling News 8 to get paid for working with her.

Some New Haven residents who worked for McMahon's Senate campaign on Election Day say they never got paid for their work.

"They told me the check was in the mail Tuesday night, the check never was in the mail," said Casandra Lowery, of New Haven.

She and others News 8 talked to say up until Election Day, the campaign had physically handed them checks for their work. However, after McMahon lost the election they say they were left to wait for and wonder whether they'd ever see a check for their long day of work.

"It took us calling News Channel 8 to get paid and that's sad," said Lowery.

"How many people are you thinking are in the same boat," asked News 8's Ali Reed.

"It's a lot of us," Lowery said. "It's a lot of us that worked and didn't get paid."

News 8 reached out to the McMahon campaign for comment and have yet to hear back, but Monday afternoon there were campaign staff members handing out checks to some of the workers.

"What do you have in your hand," asked Reed.

"My check that I've been waiting for since the election was over and I finally got it," Lowery said.

"For how much," asked Reed.

"$400," she replied.

"Is that how much you were expecting?"

"Yes," Lowery said.

Some did not receive a check Monday, they were told theirs is in the mail. The ones who did walk away with checks say they just wish they didn't have to work so hard to get paid for their efforts.

"I did give her trust just the same way she gave me trust," said Charly Huckabee-Lytell, "so it shouldn't have had to come down to this."

"It was sad because we did an honest day of work so she should have been an honest woman and paid us at the end of the night," said Lowery.

For those who didn't walk away with a check Monday the McMahon campaign says their check is in the mail and will get to them later this week.
