HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Despite the power outages and damage caused by Sandy, only two polling places across the state will have to be moved for Election Day, the Secretary of the State's office said Monday.
Secretary of the State Denise Merrill said more than 200,000 new voters have registered in Connecticut since the first of the year. Overall there are more than two million active voters in the state.
Here are the two changes in polling places:
The largest group of new voters are those between 18-29.
“We have seen a real surge of interest in this election in the last six weeks – more than 100,000 Connecticut citizens have become newly registered voters since the end of September and I think this is a very encouraging sign,” Merrill said in a news release.
Unaffiliated voters are the largest group in the state, followed by registered Democrats and then Republicans. Most of the new voters identified them as unaffiliated [ Link .pdf ]
Polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.
