BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut's first community-based transitional housing facility for women veterans is getting a visit from Senator-elect Chris Murphy.

Murphy is joining Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch for a tour of the city's Pfc. Nicholas A. Madaras Home on Friday.

The home opened last year. It is named in honor of an Army soldier who was killed in combat in Iraq in September 2006.

A spokesman for Murphy says the home is an important step to help female veterans and their families get back on their feet, and the Democrat wants to highlight the work being done by the home.
