Polls open for municipal primaries in 21 cities and towns

New Haven, Conn. (WTNH/AP) - The polls are open in 21 Connecticut cities and towns today, and in Hartford, New Haven and other towns the incumbent mayors are facing challenges from their own party.

The polls opened at 6:00 a.m. and will be open until 8:00 p.m.

In New Haven, Mayor John DeStefano is seeking a tenth term in office, but he is facing three Democratic primary challengers: New Haven Citizens Action Network founder Jeffrey Kerekes, lawyer and community activist Clifton Graves, and longtime member of the Board of Aldermen Tony Dawson.

In Hartford, Mayor Pedro Segarra is being challenged by Edwin Vargas.

Mayoral primaries are also scheduled in East Hartford, New London, West Haven, Middletown, New Haven and New Britain. The full list of towns is below.

The municipal primary in the city of Bridgeport, where incumbent Mayor Bill Finch is being challenged by fellow Democrat Mary-Jane Foster, has been re-scheduled for Sept. 27.

The general election is scheduled for Nov. 8th.
