HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Democratic Congressman John Larson will return to Washington for an eighth term representing Hartford and its suburbs after a decisive victory over Republican newcomer John Henry Decker.

Larson, a 64-year-old East Hartford resident, easily turned away Decker in the heavily Democratic 1st District after pledging to create jobs, cut middle-class taxes and fight Republican plans to dismantle President Barack Obama's health care law.

Larson is chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, which elects the Democratic leadership, approves committee assignments and works to achieve consensus among all House Democrats.
