HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut Labor Commissioner Sharon Palmer is releasing a new report on a program that provides wage subsidies and training grants to small businesses.

The initiative, known as the Subsidized Training and Employment Program or Step Up, was included in a bipartisan job creation bill passed by the General Assembly during the October 2011 special session.

Palmer will be joined at a news conference on Wednesday to discuss the report with House Majority Leader Joe Aresimowicz and Senate Majority Leader Martin Looney. Other lawmakers and participating employers and jobseekers are also scheduled to be on hand.

The report will detail the number of jobs created.

The Step Up program was recently expanded to include a subsidy to companies of any size that hire veterans.
