WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) — A Republican registrar in Waterbury says wrong ballots were used and discarded in a state House of Representatives race on Election Day as voters mistakenly cast ballots for a different House seat.
The Republican American reports that poll workers ran low on ballots Tuesday and received more. However, Republican Registrar Timothy De Carlo said officials sent the wrong ballots and 14 voters filled out ballots for the 72nd District rather than the 73rd District.
De Carlo said the ballots cast by the 14 voters for other offices were hand-counted but state legislative votes were discarded.
The statehouse race between Democratic Rep. Jeffrey Berger and Republican Dennis Odle was decided by a 1,588-vote margin, so the 14 discarded votes did not affect the outcome. The vote totals were not immediately available Wednesday morning.
