(WTNH) - The former Husky turned author, Mel Thomas, talked with News Channel 8's John Pierson about her new book, "The Heart of a Husky."

What started as a journal written in her senior year, has blossomed into a nearly 200 page book that gives the reader an inside look at the UConn women's basketball program.

"There's some funny stories, I think there's funny parts and there are parts that are really emotional. We fight a little bit and all that stuff is in there that people don't know about," Mel said.

The book chronicles her life growing up in Ohio, leading the Huskies to the Big East Championship and their quest for the national championship. But there is one part of the book Mel found especially hard to write about.

"Every time I would go back and read about the injury it still got to me and made me sad. I wrote that night as soon as I got hurt. It's as real as it gets cause it was writen when I was feeling everything I was feeling," Mel said.

Mel hopes the fans enjoy the book saying, "I hope people like it cause I put my heart and soul into it."

Mel will be appearing at a number of Connecticut locations for book signings. Visit www.melthomas.com for more information.
