New Haven (WTNH) - It's not often Yale names a new head football coach. Tom Williams is just the 3rd in 44 years. He's the 33rd coach in the program's history and also the university's first African American head football coach.
Yale is also a first for Williams. It's his first head coaching job. He has plenty of college experience and comes to the Bulldogs after two years as a defensive assistant with the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars.
Fitted with his new Yale tie, it didn't take long for Williams to win over a large Bulldog following.
"First: win the Ivy League. Second: beat Harvard," he said at the podium.
Williams says recruiting is the first order of business. He also
plans on meeting with the existing coaching staff to see who might
fit into next year's plans.
