South Kent, Connecticut (WTNH) - A family trip turned into a tragedy at a state park in South Kent.

State police headed to Bulls Bridge Park around 6:30 p.m. Sunday after reports of two people in distress at one of the swimming holes.

A family from New York was out swimming when a 16-year-old girl and her 15-year-old sister were pulled under by a currant.

The 15-year-old girl made it to shore, but her older sister didn't.

State police say she went under for about an hour and a half before her body was pulled out. The deceased has been identified as Maria Sanchez Montoya of Mahopac, New York.

The body of water was not a designated swimming area, so no life guards were on duty.

The drowning was the third in three days in Connecticut.
