STAFFORD SPRINGS, Conn. (WTNH) --A single bullet found on a Stafford school bus sent several schools into lockdown on Thursday.
State police interviewed students from several schools and searched each building but did not find anything. The lockdown and searches were completed shortly before noon.
The incident began after a bus driver for M & J School Bus Company found a bullet around 8:30 AM.
The bus driver had just completed his school bus runs and was conducting his final inspection of the bus when he located the single bullet on a seat.
State troopers then responded to the bus company, as well as the Stafford High school, Middle school, and Elementary schools and St Edward's School, to conduct searches. The students were placed in a lockdown and school officials notified parents of the incident.
State Police say that K-9 teams and troopers found no additional bullets or similar contraband.
The investigation is ongoing to determine the origin of the bullet found on the bus.
* Note: State police initially identified the bus company involved as First Student. It was not First Student, and our story has been edited accordingly.
