UConn denies it has copy of deal with Webster Bank

STORRS, Conn. (AP) — The University of Connecticut says it doesn't have a copy of the multi-million dollar contract that makes Webster Bank a major marketing partner of the school.

UConn announced the agreement this summer saying the marketing deal "encompasses all aspects of the university." Among other things, the deal calls for the bank and the school names to appear together in media campaigns and on signs at sports venues.

The Associated Press asked for the contract under the state's Freedom of Information Law, arguing the public has an interest in knowing details of a major deal involving a public university.

But in a letter Wednesday, the school said the contract is between its marketing agent, IMG College, and Webster, and denied it possesses a copy.

It also said it believes the contract could contain proprietary information.
