STORRS, Conn. (AP) — Former University of Connecticut President Philip Austin is going to have a building on campus named in his honor.
UConn officials say the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences building, known as CLAS, will become the Philip E. Austin building during a ceremony on Wednesday.
The building houses several college departments, classrooms and the dean's office.
Austin led UConn from October 1996 to September 2007 and took over again as interim president from May 2010 through June 2011.
He oversaw the massive $1 billion UConn 2000 construction and renovation project and helped push the subsequent $1.3 billion 21st Century building program at the school.
A large crowd is expected at the airport and on UConn's campus …
