Driver takes off after hitting pedestrian

Ellington, Conn. (WTNH) - A pedestrian was severely injured after being hit by a car in Ellington.

The incident happened just before 11 a.m. on Maple Street near Ellington High School.

Officials say the pedestrian was not a high school student.

The pedestrian was taken by LifeStar to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries.

Police say the car was left on the scene, but the driver ran away. He was caught and arrested a short time later.

The victim has not yet been identified.
