SOMERS, Conn. (AP) - Efforts to rebuild a 170-year-old church in Somers that burned down on New Year's Day have received an unexpected boost — the discovery of the church's original 1842 building plans.

A reference librarian at the State Library, Carol Ganz, told The Hartford Courant that she went looking for church documents after hearing about the fire at the Somers Congregational Church, and she was surprised when she found a box containing the building plans.

Congregation members were also surprised when Ganz called to tell them what she found, and they hope to use the plans when building the new church. The congregation wants the exterior of the new church to be about the same as the old one.

Police are still investigating the fire. No arrests have been made.
