Hebron (WTNH) - A Hebron summer camp damaged by vandals earlier this year will reopen on time today, three months after vandals went on a rampage.

The vandals broke every window in the lodge at Camp Hihoti. They damaged sinks, doors, walls, even rolled the riding law mower into the swimming pool.

There was so much damage Camp Hihoti almost canceled events for the summer, but all the damage was repaired thanks to the community and some help from a contractor.

Hihoti is not an ordinary summer camp. This is run by the Hartford Neighborhood Centers to give inner city kids a chance to spend some time in the country.

"Parents who can't afford to pay the $200-$300 a week for camp are able to send their kids for $20 basically for the whole 6 weeks," said Lynn Ford, Exec. Director, Hartford Neighborhood Centers.

Burnham Builders does work for the Neighborhood Centers and they fixed the camp up, even pulling workers from other projects to make sure Camp Hihoti opened on time.

"So it's just an outpouring of kindness from a lot of people, and in today times, it's kind of hard to see that, but we saw it with the camp," Ford said.

Insurance paid for some of the repairs, donations covered the rest, and now these kids will be able to have the summer adventure they dreamed of.

The investigation into who did all that damage is still going on. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Connecticut State Police Troop K at (860) 537-7500 or text TIP711 plus your message to CRIMES (274637).
