Vernon PD respond to domestic stabbing

Vernon (WTNH) - Vernon Police responded to a domestic dispute call where a male had been stabbed and a female locked herself in an apartment with the assault knife and three children.

Officers entered the apartment and the suspect, 32-year-old Marcia Amaral, ran to a bathroom. Officers forced their way into the bathroom and took Amaral into custody.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the victim is Amaral's live-in boyfriend. They also have a child together. One of the children tried to stop Amaral when she had the knife.

Amaral had been assaulting the victim throughout the night and the victim had facial injuries. The stab wound was to his right arm. She also reportedly tried to get a propane tank from a grill and threatened to blow up the building.

Amaral and the victim were admitted to the hospital and after treatment both were released.

Amaral was taken into custody and transported to the Vernon Police Department and after being processed was held on a $250,000 surety bond.

She faces several charges including Risk of Injury to a child, Assault, Threatening and Breach of Peace.
