One killed in boat crash on Mashapaug Pond

UNION, Conn. (WTNH) -- A 40-year-old Hebron man was killed after a boating accident on Mashapaug Pond in Union.

Richard J. Franas Jr. was killed when the 17-foot power boat he was in crashed into rocks and trees along the shore of the pond around 11 p.m. Saturday night.

He was transported to Johnson Memorial Hospital, but was later transferred to St. Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The boat's driver, 41-year-old Michael J. Antol was transported to Johnson Memorial Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The crash is under investigation.
