TOLLAND, Conn. (WTNH) -- A teenager from Tolland is recovering after being trapped in a glacier in Alaska for five hours.

Sixteen-year-old Kurt Schenher was hiking with his brother when he fell through a snow bridge, down into a crevasse.

He was about 50 feet down.

The force of the fall ripped his clothes off and he was pinned with his skin against the ice.

Alaskan firefighters rappelled down into the hole and got him out.

The weather was too bad to fly him to the hospital by helicopter, so they had to take him by ambulance.

Schenher is now in a hospital in Alaska being treated for exposure.

He's listed in guarded condition.

Schenher plays football for East Catholic High School in Manchester.
