Cast your vote

New Haven, Conn. (WTNH) - After what seems like a very long campaign season -- and yes, they do seem to get longer every other year --tomorrow is Election Day here in Connecticut.

A recent unscientific poll we conducted suggests that at least 15 percent of you will simply choose not to vote tomorrow. Some of you shared your reasons -- ranging from simply not liking any of the candidates to being angry over having to watch too many political commercials.

Pardon us for saying so, but that's just not a good enough reason to stay home.

This would typically be the point where we would suggest as strongly as possible that it is your civic duty to vote.

Or remind you that living in a democracy is a privilege that isn't automatic in much of the world.

Or we could even point out the true sacrifice of the men and women who have given their lives to protect your freedoms -- including the right to freely cast a ballot.

The truth is that none of these arguments will probably get you to reconsider the belief held by too many that it just isn't necessary for you to vote or that your one vote won't change anything.

People seem to believe that's especially true when it's not a presidential election year.

But the polls suggest that this mid-term election will be very close in nearly every race. That means every single vote could matter in determining the outcome, and in turn the direction for our state and nation in the years ahead.

We often hear that people don't know exactly where to go on Election Day to cast their vote. So we've teamed up with the folks from Google to help solve that problem. By visiting the OnPolitix section on our website at WTNH.com , you can just enter your home address and find out exactly where you need to go to vote tomorrow. You can also find out more about all of the candidates who will be on the ballot on Tuesday.

With that let us ask that you make it a point to participate in our democracy and cast your vote tomorrow.

I'm Kirk Varner and that's where we stand. As always, we'd like to hear your take on this issue. Leave a comment below.
