(WTNH) - Tuesday night in this space, we asked the question if the battles over municipal budgets in cities and towns across the state were failing our local schools.

We asked for your take on this important issue and heere’s a sample of what some of you had to say:

Joe O’Connor expresses a sentiment we heard from a number of people… “Introduce competition to the public school system via school vouchers, bust the unions, pay-for-performance, manage costs like a business does. The old system is long overdue for an overhaul.”

But on our Facebook page , Jennifer Chase Downey stated what others expressed…”Education is the LAST thing that should be cut. Education for the kids is what creates successful adults…Let’s solve the problems from the start, not fix it when it breaks.”

We heard from a few seniors whose sentiments were best captured by this from Elizabeth Gustafson: “I am 70 years old and have been paying exorbitant taxes for the last 27 years. My children have been out of school for 25 years…I am forced to pay exorbitant taxes to take care of other people’s children while no one is taking care of me.”

And finally Alex Wong had this perspective: “The Us vs. Them lines are fostering misunderstanding…It isn’t us vs. them. We are all citizens of the United States and it is our duty to make informed decisions and to try to build a better America.”

Those are just some of your takes on this important issue. You can read all of the comments by visiting our website at wtnh.com and add your own to the conversation.
