PLAINFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Officials are trying to get a dog healthy and ready for adoption after she was found tied up in a parking lot.

When Parker arrived at the Plainfield Veterinary Hospital last Tuesday most of her hair had been bitten or scratched away. She was full of flees and badly sunburned.

"The look in her eyes, she was scared of everything, but she is so much more trusting now and her fur is starting to grow back," said Christy Valys, a veterinary technician at the hospital. "Her sunburn's gone, her sores are healing up nice."

The pit bull mix was found tied to a fence at the exit 88 park and ride, hence her name. She was left for days with no food, no water, and no shelter.

"It's more anger than anything else. I mean I just can't begin to fathom how somebody can treat living breathing being like that," Valys said.

Karen Stone, the town's animal control officer, calls it one of the worst cases of neglect she has ever seen.

"She's had a great personality through the whole thing," Valys said. "She has every reason to be mad at the world and she's not, which is nice."

Stone tells News 8 that the town is accepting applications for anyone who wants to adopt Parker, but right now she needs some a little more care before she gets to go home with anyone.

Already many have responded to Parker's Facebook page , donating more than enough money for her care. Now she needs a family who will give her the life she should have had.

"This person needs to be caught and they need to be dealt with the way that it should be taken care of," Valys said. "They need to face some type of charges."

Workers at the veterinary hospital say she should have been tied up outside the pound, not the parkway.
