DANIELSON, Conn. (AP) — State environmental officials have relocated a black bear into the woods of northeastern Connecticut after it spent a day wandering around Danielson and Brooklyn.

The Norwich Bulletin reports the black bear, which weighs about 200 pounds, was tranquilized Thursday evening after climbing a tree between Route 6 and Franklin and Dyer streets.

The bear was first spotted on South Street in Brooklyn, then again near Main street. Authorities say after eating from a bird feeder, he then made his way across Route 6 and into Danielson.

Authorities cordoned off the area near Franklin Street while they dealt with the animal. Environmental authorities say while bear sightings are common in northwestern Connecticut, they are rare in eastern Connecticut.
