POMFRET, Conn. (WTNH) -- A story about a woman's wedding nightmare grabbed the attention of state authorities, and now her money is back where it belongs.
It was relief for one to-be-bride and her fiance.
Jessica Bartosiewciz had to scramble to change her October wedding plans when The Harvest Restaurant in Pomfret closed without notifying her. She lost her venue and her $250 deposit.
"I just wanted my money back," she said.
Bartosiewicz contacted News 8 when she couldn't get through to restaurant owner Anthony Malis.
"Thank you for helping us," she said.
"Yeah no problem we're glad to let folks know if there is any trouble out there," said News 8's Tina Detelj.
"Right right and I'm glad I got the idea," Bartosiewicz said, "someone gave me the idea to call you guys and it worked out."
News 8 talked to the Attorney General's office which at the time had only received one complaint. The office assured us it was looking into that complaint and whether or not others had also lost deposits or had unused gift cards.
However, we didn't stop there. We left messages for Malis at his Rhode Island home as well.
Last week Bartosiewicz got a check from his personal account.
"I honestly didn't think I was going to get it," she said, "so I was pretty shocked and excited that we got it."
"It was a relief that he...they made good on it because no one does," said John Polli, fiance.
News 8 checked in with the Attorney General's office again Wednesday and found out since we first did the story two more people have contacted the AG with complaints about The Harvest Restaurant. Those cases are still being worked on.
"God forbid if it had been somebody's wedding that weekend and they didn't know or if somebody had paid in full for the wedding and that would have been a lot of money," Bartosiewicz said.
