POMFRET, Conn. (WTNH) -- A bride-to-be is warning others after finding out that her wedding venue closed up shop unexpectedly and without notice.
Jessica Bartosiewicz was supposed to celebrate the happiest day of her life at The Harvest Restaurant in Pomfret. The invitations were printed, the contract was signed, and she even put down a $250 deposit.
"And they cashed it," said bride-to-be Bartosiewicz, "so they took the money."
She and her fiance John thought their October 6th nuptials were all set until they called two weeks ago.
"I don't know when it closed," said Bartosiewicz. "I don't know why it closed, but I got no notification, no check in the mail."
Bartosiewicz contacted News 8 to warn others.
"I saw a commercial like if you see it report it," she said. "And I'm like I'm gonna report it because I think everybody needs to know."
News 8 tracked down the name of the owner through the local health district and then found a number listed for Anthony Malis in Coventry, Rhode Island.
"The restaurant is now closed," said News 8' Tina Detelj, "no one ever called her and let her know that."
After we left a message and we went to the Pomfret restaurant where we discovered a reunion also had to be moved.
In our attempt to get answers for Jessica, we wanted to find out who owns the property so we talked to the town and we found out the owner is P & G Real Estate. News 8 dug deeper and we also found out that LLC is in foreclosure on the property, which will go up for auction October 13th.
Literally a week after Jessica and John's big day.
"If they didn't have money to pay their mortgage they're not going to have money to pay back the people they took money from," Bartosiewicz said.
News 8 contacted the AG's office which is now also looking for answers.
